Investment Strategy

Companies that change the world

During the history of Northzone and our first three funds we focused on start-ups and early stage companies. For a simple reason, really: We had seen it, done it and we knew all the tricks to make it work. (Yes, we could write the book and sell nicely. Doing it this way, though, yields better returns-on-knowledge).

Currently , we also invest in companies in the expansion phase. Needless to say, our successful start-ups have all been expansion phase companies, so incidentally, we have become quite familiar with the challenges in growing companies that have significant revenues and strong market positions

As far as our focus goes, we invest in companies that can become major winners and shape their respective industries in a new way. Companies that have less ambition than that may well be healthy businesses but not prospective Northzone investments. We want to deliver top-tier returns to our investors, not just nice companies.

We stick to our knitting, and invest in technology companies which is our area of core competence. The skill set and network required to successfully invest for instance in biotech or life science are very different.
