Modus Operandi
An adaptive, hands-on model that has proven itself, time and time again
Analytical rigor and straight thinking is a well needed starting point but not even close to sufficient when developing the true potential of a start-up. Experience and ability to extract what is really key makes up for the lions' share of our contribution. When a company presents its investment case to Northzone, they meet a senior partner right from the start.
When interacting with Northzone, you will meet experienced people right away. We don't like to create layers and gate keepers between the Entrepreneurs and the Northzone Partners. We like to know our priorities when we speak to our company CEO's, so we do the math ourselves rather than relying on an army of number crunchers. This also increases our efficiency, quite a lot. We've been noted by entrepreneurs more than once, for our quick responses.
We have stringent internal work processes for investment reviews. As well as ways of reaching our investment decisions that have been fine tuned over the years with proven results, in terms of returns and in quick decision making ability. The Partnership represents a deep pool of resources and experience that we always draw on.
Attracting the appropriate co-investor can add significant value to the investment prospect or portfolio company. We have a long history of co-investing with some of the leading venture capital players.
When we say that we are active investors, we usually illustrate that with the fact that each Partner manages only 4-6 active portfolio companies. That gives us enough bandwidth to proactively assist each company in building its organization, strengthening the international network and commercial partnerships, as well as preparing and securing further funding rounds or exits. Frequently, the Northzone Partner holds the Chairman role in the portfolio company during the initial 6-12 months after an investment.
