T-VIPS Delivers ATSC Transport Stream Processing and Management Solutions
Europe's leading and widest range of advanced Digital Terrestrial processing systems arrive at NAB in an ATSC-ready package for digital transition projects
Oslo, Norway - April 16 2009
T-VIPS AS, a global leader in professional video management and distribution, today announced full ATSC support throughout its award-winning cProcessor product line designed for signal processing, multiplexing and monitoring. With T-VIPS' ATSC-ready cProcessors, DTV operators and broadcasters can newly deploy innovative solutions for IP transport, stream processing, redundancy changeover and digital television transition projects.
"T-VIPS' cProcessors power many of the world's most advanced and complex digital terrestrial applications," said Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS AS. "ATSC compliance ensures that operators and broadcasters can optimize their digital television transition projects as well as introduce new functionality and services."
T-VIPS' cProcessors have been highly successful in digital terrestrial networks across Europe. For the last 18 months the T-VIPS cProcessors have been handling the localization of content for Norway's 11 regions as part of the country's analog switch off project. In addition, the cProcessors are now live as a major and integral part of Arqiva's UK Digital Switch Over project, one of the world's most complex digital terrestrial programs, at which the T-VIPS SI Manager enables Arqiva to efficiently implement cross-carriage of listings data. Other countries where T-VIPS cProcessors have been deployed for DTT or DVB-H mobile TV networks include: Austria, France, Finland, Hungary, Italy, and New Zealand.
"The optimization of PSI/SI/PSIP handling is a complex task that we have now solved for both DVB and ATSC operators," continued Dolvik. "With our cProcessors, operators are ensured that they can make the most of their ATSC compliant infrastructure through efficient switching, simplified service regionalization, and advanced transport stream monitoring."
Debuting at NAB, is T-VIPS' CP541 which delivers intelligent seamless 1+1 redundancy switchover between two MPEG-2 transport streams. The CP541 monitors actual signals, not just the health of the hardware equipment, providing more reliability. The product monitors both incoming MPEG-2 transport streams for status, aligns the two inputs with regard to delay differences and performs seamless switchover based upon configurable switching criteria. The CP541 is available today.
Notes for Editors:
The T-VIPS cProcessor product family supports a multitude of applications in digital terrestrial, cable and satellite markets including the regional adaptation of TV services. These services include on-the-fly update of channel numbers in the PSIP tables in a multi-transmitter network to ensure that all viewers receive correct EPG information, program filtering, and the regional multiplexing and insertion of local TV channels in a national multiplex. Handling of PSIP updates to meet the FCC's PSIP requirements is critical as errors in this data can cause serious issues including: DTV tuners not finding channels, closed captions not appearing, or programs not being listed in electronic program guides (EPGs).
The T-VIPS cProcessors also support single frequency network (SFN) operation, redundancy switching and re-multiplexing at regional headends as well as monitoring down to signal and service level. The full T-VIPS ATSC-compliant cProcessor line handles SMPTE 310M Synchronous Serial Interface as well as DVB-ASI. In addition to the new CP541, the T-VIPS cProcessor product family includes:
CP510: For the adaptation of MPEG-2 transport streams at, for example, regional headends. This product provides flexible and powerful PID and program filtering, PSI/SI/PSIP handling as well as SI/PSIP download over IP and carousel play out. In addition, the CP510 can function as an SFN adaptor with MIP insertion for single frequency networks.
CP511: A SFN adaptor for MIP insertion in single frequency networks.
CP525: A powerful tool for flexible processing and multiplexing of MPEG-2 transport streams at regional headends and other locations. Applications include the regionalization of multiplexes by service add & drop, and the adaptation of PSIP and SI for regional program package. The CP525 also supports IP-based SI/PSIP download and carousel play out.
CP545: Handles the monitoring of up to four transport streams per unit. Typical applications include: central headend monitoring for satellite, cable, terrestrial, IPTV and contribution headends, remote monitoring of signals, and monitoring of signals in the transmission chain with 24/7 continuous supervision of signals.
T-VIPS Connect: This solution provides user-friendly remote monitoring and control through a web-based graphical user interface for all T-VIPS solutions. T-VIPS Connect provides a new concept for the inventory management of large number of devices in a DTV networks, making it easy for operators to supervise and perform software and configuration management of all equipment in the network.
